Still trying to figure this out:nilly:

The current setup is just a 65gal with Rena XP3 filter, sand substrate, rocks and driftwood for decor. I plan to add a Magnum HOT for a little extra filtration/water polishing. Temp is set to 80*, PH is around 7-7.2, right in the middle of the soft/hard on a test strip (can't remember off the top of my head exactly where my water falls on that scale)

Currently have (these aren't going anywhere, so everything else has to get along with them):
2x Senegal Bichir
1x Jack Dempsey

currently thinking:
2x Pearl Gouramis
2x Firemouth Cichlids
2x Blackveil (or other) Angelfish

Will the fins on the angelfish never be safe? Will this be too much of a bioload? What do you think? Any better suggestions?

Thanks for any advice...

That JD is gonna take out half that stock, in my opinion. I wouldn't advise it. The bichirs are safe with fish that can't fit in their mouths.

I didn't think the JD would be too bad with enough room in the tank and some territory to keep...

What else would you recommend? And which half would he NOT take out....?

Right...so far I've only seen him show SLIGHT curiosity towards the two bichirs and the pleco (they're all currently in a 20gallon waiting for the 65 to cycle...the pleco is staying in the 20 or going back to a store if he outgrows it--supposed to be a smaller species though). He's a fairly aggressive eater, but all he does is shoot for the food, he doesn't attack anything else thats trying to eat.

He's still only maybe 2 inches though, so we'll see how it all pans out. And I think most/all of those fish won't fit in the bichirs mouths when everything is full grown...they're still quite small, but I don't think they'll grow to the point that they'll gulp a 6 inch fish...we'll see I guess.

Does anybody have any other suggestions? I'm open to just about anything, and I'm not rushing out to get anything until the tank is fully cycled at the soonest, so probably not for at least a few more weeks. I'd like to have more than 3 fish in a 65 gallon tank but I don't want to just do bichirs...

edit: what about severums?

Bump...any suggestions would be very much appreciated...

The dempsey and angelfish will never work out. I would even question the firemouths with the angelfish. Angelfish even though are agressive with each other can't stand the beating of a jd or even firemouths.

Ok, so what about firemouths with the jack dempsey and bichirs?

From another thread I think its going to come down to finding out how my Jack Dempsey reacts to other fish, and from there (if he's not too aggressive) just finding fish that the bichirs won't eat and that won't pester the bichirs.

We'll see.
