I believe it is irresponsable for stores that sell fish not to except fish for adoption and or trade.

why is that?

There's a risk of introducing a disease if they had to accept every fish someone brought off the street.

There's also a risk of not being able to resell a fish they accepted for free or as a trade in. Either way, they lose money because that's valuable tank space being wasted on an unsellable "trash" fish.

It all depends on what type of fish you are bringing in. because if you want to bring in a 20 inch RTC they have to spend time, food, space maintaining it.. So i think it depends..

I think people shoud take some time to decide what they want before buying them, and not treat fish like a throw away pet. You can always sell a fish to a new owner with a little searching or to local clubs and etc..

I guess we could all just trow non native fish in our waters? these people are in the fish buisness. If they dont care about fish and people they should get out! buying selling and trading is a part of every buisness.Being scared of disease is not an issue because every fish store at this very moment has a fish with a disease. I also dont believe there are trash fish.

Scott dude, chill out. Do pet strores that sell dogs and cats take in every stray? no. if you have a car that you want to get rid of, does every dealer take in every car? No. If you ahve a computer you no longer want, do you take it to best buy (probably where you didn't buy it), and say "here take my computer, i'm done with it, but give me something back." No. So stores do take in trades on some fish. Some stores don't as a policey. I don't believe at all that is irresponsible for a store not to take fish, it is irresponsible of the owner to get that unwanted fish in the first place.

I did buy my computer at best buy. but fish are a little different .you cant bring a fish to the local animal shelter and I live in a small community that doesnt have any local fish clubs. This gives me an idea i can advertise in the news paper that I am willing to tank in abandoned fish.:D

Great idea!!! You will need monsterous tanks though and tons of room. The point about the computer deal was that most people try to take a fish back to a place that they didn't even buy it form in the first place.
