I am setting up a 55g tank for a or some piranha.I wanted to get a manuelli, but finding one is a chore...What are your opinions on what fish to get?? Shoal of pygos or a serra??? Thanks

sanchezi or mac

both only get to about 7-8 inches (although i seem to remeber someone saying macs can get to 12") and would fit comfortably in your 55 for life

55 is a little too small for a shoal of pygo's

I am not sure what a Mac is,I tried to find it but dont know the scientific name for them...

Mac = Maculatus, common names are gold piranha, gold spilopleura (short for gold spilo)
Sanchezi sometimes is also called red spilopleura (short for red spilo)

You can also go for a true spilopleura (Serrasalmus spilopleura, also called red ruby spilopleura, short for red ruby spilo). it gets to about the same size as the two species mentioned above. very pretty fish, pretty rare too.

I do like the ruby red spilo!! I have had my eye on that fish,I can almost guarantee that I will have to order it off the internet..Is there any fish I can put in with these?? Like a pleco or catfish or any fish...Thanks

there's not guarantee that the cohab will work. provide lots of hiding places would help a bit.
any reason you want to add more fish in with the rube red spilo?

Well I dont necessarily I was just curious to if I could or at least an algae eater..Just curious, the site where I see it there is absolutely no info on it..
