What feeders do you feed your cichla? Why do you prefer the ones you use?

I catch minnows for my cichla.

i use guppies for my small grow outs....and home bred cichlids!

Pellets and Frozen Shrimp....lol

I'm not to keen on useing feeders. I probley use them just for "single spot training". But, when i do use feeds, it's the covects that i breed.

(When I do) I buy a few DZ and put them in a Home Depot Bucket with just an Air Stone (they are coldwater fish so no need for heaters...). I hit them with Meth-Blue and wait for about 2 weeks... Its dinner time:D

I usually have some dead here and there but Id rather them die than feed my fish feeders that were no good;)

Just my 2 cents... oh, and I put my Bucket under my 300 so they dont get in the way and water change are easy... there is a handle:D

I buy 100 Rosies every Fri. and of course I have multiple breeders so I always have the best food for cichla imo.. 3'' Cichlid's. All of my growout's are around 5''-6'' so i am now trying shrimp. - 55g BW/Krill/

I feed them 25 Goldies on the weekend. Primarly this tank get's pellet's/shrimp as there main staple for food. The Cichla in this tank are 8''-12''. -150g BW/Krill/Cricket's.

Of course feeding these guy's is ridiculous, I feed them at least 50 XL goldies at least on weekend out every month. Sometime 2x a month. The Cichla in this tank are 14''-20''+. This tank has been going through some trial and error. I have been trying different feeding options. I feed them massivore which they eat but it's very messy so this tank get's about 30 large shrimps every Wed. and Sat. Every here and now I get a good size unwanted Cichlid/Koi/Gold fish that I feed to them at least once a month or when ever I can. - 240g ( also feed talapia/mussles/Krill Frozen and dry/ and any fresh caught lake fish I can catch)

Angler at the size your Cichla is at you should start feeding more then just feeders for sure.

I started with rosies at first, but they were dieing like crazy. I switched to goldfish because they are much bigger, hardier, and the same price as the rosies. The goldfish are so messy though. My filter just got disgusting in one week. I just upgraded the feeder tank from a 10 to a 28, so hopefully the goldfish won't seem as messy. What kind of set up do you have for your rosies? Are you successful at keeping them from dieing every day?

I do want to start feeding them other things. They haven't eaten anything else yet. The Mono/Ocell has gone after shrimp but just spits it out. The Kelberi is interested in nothing but feeders. I am gonna switch to the spot feeding one feeder at a time then dropping other kinds of foods technique pretty soon here.
