I started with rosies at first, but they were dieing like crazy. I switched to goldfish because they are much bigger, hardier, and the same price as the rosies. The goldfish are so messy though. My filter just got disgusting in one week. I just upgraded the feeder tank from a 10 to a 28, so hopefully the goldfish won't seem as messy. What kind of set up do you have for your rosies? Are you successful at keeping them from dieing every day?

I do want to start feeding them other things. They haven't eaten anything else yet. The Mono/Ocell has gone after shrimp but just spits it out. The Kelberi is interested in nothing but feeders. I am gonna switch to the spot feeding one feeder at a time then dropping other kinds of foods technique pretty soon here.

I have a 10g under gravel/ small power head set up. That's funny because I can't keep golfish alive for nothing but can keep minnows for months. Go figure :screwy:. It's been my experience that Temp and good water are key for keeping the healty and living. On a average I loose about 15% every 100 minnow's it's inevetable it happen's. I actually got to a point that I was doing something looked down upon by most hobbiest but I have alway's gone outside the box. When we see each other face to face I will speak on that. Just remind me.

Look at it like this Tyler if there mouthing it then your on your way. When your trainning for the first time this may seem like failed attempt's but it is possitive intrest so just keep trying and they will come around in no time. Soon you will be gauguing what not to feed them this month becuase you don't want to clean up the mess like myself. I still feed pellet's to all my cichlids but Cichla make a complete mess when eating pellet's. So I do frown down on feeding it directly to them still but hey when there hungry gotta feed them. So what if I have to clean up a whole bag of hikari large! :D

Freeze dried krill, market shrimp, goldfish, blue fish strips, flounder strips only when i catch them, ghost shrimp, massivore pellets and sometimes when they are in the mood nightcrawlers. They dont really care for crayfish though.

Really there eating machines so when they ready to be preped off live go for it Anlger. I would just give feeders every here and then. I just love giving them big gold fish to keep them full for longer periods of time. But when there young they eat and burn right through guppies with no problem. The big goldies last my big cichla at least 4 day's and then they begin looking for more food.
