  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hey ryan.. which zoo is that? prob i should check with them and post here sayin dont feed this to your aro.. :)

The Pittsburgh Zoo, specifically the PPG Aquarium part of it. I remember seeing an ad over the summer that said that they had finally acquired some arapaima for display only to get there a few days later to find out that they had already died. :(

just a bit off topic:
since this is somewhat alike to the question, what does arowana farms feed to their hundred arowanas?
thanks!

I went to the Mandalay Bay aquarium in las vegas before i was into fish keeping and i remember they had giant gouramis and arowanas. Actually, that is one of the reasons i really wanted to get into fish keeping. according to their website it looks like they have arowanas and arapaimas. http://www.sharkreef.com/explore/animals.aspx

yeah, I was talking to the staff recently at mandalay bay aquarium about their aros and they feed them silversides and raw shrimp (just like I do). they keep both asian and silver aros.

Why zoos? It isn't like it's a bull shark... There are plenty of people with arowanas, and most feed shrimp, pellets, tilapia and such. I think if you can afford the fish and tank to properly house one, the food is a drop in the bucket. I mean it cost me about 4000 to setup my tank, another 1500 for the fish and probably 30 per month to feed them.

:) had a look at your 500G tank build bryan.. haven't gone through it entirely.. yes i do do the same.. pellets, tilapia and such.. i have a 2400G pond with 3 Aros and other fish.. its not a question on affordability but more on do zoos or public aquaria try to adhere to the natural diet of these fish as such.. basically i want to compare against what we fish keepers do.. end of the day ya i'd prob like these fish to outlive me :) cheers..
