I now have my second female Red Hump Geophagus holding eggs, the first one had her babies go free swimming about 2 weeks ago. I was thinking of trying to turn them in for some store credit once they got bigger, but I have heard that many stores don't like to do this...

So I was wondering what everyone does with all of their fry? My Geos being mouthbrooders have very small numbers compared to some of you who have hundreds of severum, parachromis, etc fry.

I use them for feeders...lol

I sell them to pet stores. Take them to auction sales or give them away . Also post them on any local fish sites in your area. I,m sure your females are just warming up.
My last batch. which was about her fifth batch, I got 70 fry.
Good luck

I promised myself my fry would be raised and then taken to the lfs. However, ummm.....I kept them. But I will be taking the future ones into the lfs.

I have about 200-300 RD and Jag fry in a grow out tank. If I cant sell them to a LFS or at an auction, I will use them as feeders....

using fry as feeders (you know they are disease free, well fed and full of nutrients for the larger fish)....what a great way to recycle....

I keep mine. But then again so far I have only had the dwarf platy's breed. lol.

I keep platys in my pond they breed like guppies . I never heard of dwarf platys they sound neat

I put the first red hump female back in the main tank. 30 second later the male was courting. Within 6 hours she was holding again. I tried to put the two incubating females together but that did not go well... so now one is in the main tank and one in the maternity ward.

If you lived close to me I would take some of the Red Hump Geo's.. I sell my fry to people and pet stores. I am wanting to start a geo, tank.

Grow 'em out and get some store credit.
