Just wondering what kind of substrate everyone uses, why and what kind of fish are in the tank. I'm trying to decide what kind of substrate I should use for my 3 tanks.
Depends on the fish in the tank, and what bio type it is.
I have black gravel in my 75g, with a 7" oscar, 5" jag, 12" channel cat(first fish, not giving him up) and a pictus cat thats 5".
In my 29g, I have sand, and that tank houses 6 leopard frog plecos that are 2.5-3.5" in length, a queen pleco thats 4", a royal pleco thats 5", a pbass, hes 2". I also have 1 "assorted S.A. cichlid" thats 4" and 1 Saulosi Cichlid 4"(Only one left since the wipe out of my afro tank)
Im actually planning on switching to sand in the 75g and the black gravel in the 29g.
Tanks with actual water in them
150 - river rock
135 - mixture of Seachem onyx, seachem onyx sand, flourite, and cheap gravel.
55 - pebble beach
20 sand
10s all bb.
In my 54 gallon corner tank with africans, I have natural colored gravel. In my 55 gallon SA/CA, I have 3M's Color Quartz T Grade in black. In my 190 about to be set up for SA/CA, I'm using 3M Color Quartz T Grade in black as well. The fishes in the 55 are going in the 190.
The black Color Quartz is my favorite. I feel like it makees the fishes color and plants really stand out.
