Sean is exactly right. F1 means Filial1 - the first generation progeny from a cross. It's a relative term and it all depends on what people refer to as F0.

I always post From Wild parents if I post F1 due to the above quoted statement

F0 is used in the hobby to denote wild caught fish, in which case the 0 refers to the individuals not having a filial (sibling) relation (an assumption). In genetics, the proper term is P1 (parental generation) and the subsequent generations are F1, F2, and so on.

It can also be considered the degree of mark up that you'll pay for a fish at the LFS, with the f# being inversely proportional to the price.
