what does your sump look like

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well sump motors are driven by the force of the impeller blades throwing the water away so the push water awaw.
good question it had me thinking over night

this is the sump (not set up yet.) it is up and running now and works like a buety. the sump media is different then that in the pic because i found that the sponge rot. i now have scouring pads and cut up straws as bio. yes i said straws. they work just like ceramic rings.

Piping picture - Eshopps overflow running into Y connector and through the floor to 55 in the basement below. Black hose is return line to tank powered by Magdrive 1200.

Sump picture - two 5-gallon buckets stacked on top of each other. Top one is filled with floss and lower one with bio balls. Top has strainer lid for bucket to catch larger debris.

Missing from photo are plants in the sump. The picture is right after I set it up.

Here's mine. Seems to be working ok, I'm still getting everything set up for the next round of fish though.

Here is the sump that will be going under my 315G DIY. The sump is plywood sealed with pond coat. Water enters through each end of the sump through 200 micron filter socks, then falls through filter plates that cover 20 and 30ppi poret foam, 100 and 50 micron filter pads before getting returned to the tank.
