I need a fish that eats only algae (not plants, not fish) and can not be picked on by my monsters, but is not in the least aggressive. It needs to readily eat hair algae, red algae, slime algae, cyanobacteria, etc. It is ok if it eats detritus as well, but the main course needs to be algae. How big the mature size is needs to stay under 2 feet. I know that some plecos eventually stop eating algae, this specimen can't do that. Hair algae is the main thing that needs to be eaten. It needs to be a common fish.

When algae is scarce, it also needs to be able to adapt. (not mandatory, as I have wafers, but a big plus.)

Bala sharks will keep the algae growth down. If you already have algae though, I don't know what to say. I've never had algae in my tanks.

How well do they keep it down? Hair algae and all? What about on the glass?

Hair algae is half the problem.

Thanks, BTW.

The algae came in on some plants. **** plants....

What is an SAE?

And whould snails eat the cursed hair algae? It seems to grow an inch a second.lol. This is the first time in 10 years I have had hair algae in one of my tanks and it is AWFUL stuff.
