I have a standard 125 gallon tank, with an ehiem 2217, ac 110, and a sponge filter rated for 110 gallons. The current inhabitants are a 8" oscar, 7" male jack, 8" ornate bichir, 5" male Vieja Synspilum. I was wondering what other fish I may be able to squeeze in. I am interested in a barred midas, male trimac, male jag, male mota, male freddy. I know they probably wont work together but I was wondering what everyone else's opinions were. Thanks.

i would say get something smaller and colorful.
salvini's might work well.
nicaraguensis might work well.
septemfasciatus, honduran red points maybe.

but take note that those guys you have in there will get quite large. if i were you i would personally take out the oscar. those might be interesting, but they are poop machines. if you take that out the bioload would drop quite a bit and you can have two large impressive fish with some smaller colorful ones that can stand for themselves, but are small enough to get away when needed. put a lot of cave work and pots etc and you will be ok.

Nothing else really. Once your fish grow to max size you are on the limit of bioload. That Syn. will get 15 inches in no time and will be a handle on your bioload. Think about the future not about what it is like now. The O will reach aroun 13" the Jack will get 9-10" and the birchir will reach around 20" so either up the filtration to a 60 gallon sump or do water changes like a MuthaF****. It is all up to you and you only so..

:iagree:, maybe something for a while until they grow up but then something will end up having to go unfortunatley.!

Really a 125 is only big enough for 2 big blokes 13"+ and one small guy 8-10" so really your option is getting rid of fish instead of adding lol. I am sure you will O.K. with your current stock as you will be able to manage it a little more effeciently.

:werd: And the fish you want to add are not necessarily the most community friendly fish. Once the vieja gets bigger don't be surprised if it becomes the a-hole of the tank, by punking everyone else in there.

There should be constant attacks on other tankmates already with that current stocklist.I think ANY Amphilophus will be the straw that broke the camels back.

yeah i think you are already pushing the limits, in my 125g i got a 7'' jag, 3-3.5'' rtm, and 4'' reddevilxmidas. i went a step over and added 2 raphael stripe cats just because i really needed a bottom feeder. 125g is a big tank but when housing long term large cichlids .... they are small.

I would go with a mated pair of convicts.
