Money aside,i think the biggest colonies of Bacteria would be attained by the use of cermic rings.I don't know of a more porous and inert material for said use.Go with ALOT of ceramic rings.......Like the japanese style setups pics Neoprodigy posted:):):):)

cell pore has a lot more surface area for bacteria than the ceramic rings

Cell-Pore huh....I just wnet to their site and read up on it,i saw Kent labs carries blocks of it.It looks way better than rings, better flow-through.Thanks man.

i finally got the pic up.. so what can i add to this set up to improve my filtration? i hear bout ceramic rings.. what if instead, i use pvc rings.. i have lotta small pvc lying around and i can just cut them up into rings like the ceramic deals.

It's the porocity of the ceramic material that makes it useful, PVC doesn't have it so that's what makes it useful (no leaks ha, ha).

Is that lava rock on the bottom? If so change to scubbies and double the amount (fill it up) (raise the drip plate and lower the egg crate).

Now that that's said...you need to be generating enough waste to make the bacteria grow to the size of the filter (bacteria only grow to the amount of food available), and NO that doesn't mean you have to overstock your tank, just match the load to the generators.

no lava rocks in there just bio balls.. so fill as much of it as possible of scrubbies.. and i should lower the eggcrate? dont think i can do that since the part where the eggcrates are layin on are pretty much stuck there. i guess i could increase the amt of water in the sump... then i need to increase bio waste to generate enough bacteria.. got it.

thanks

The black stuff under the blue bio-balls is more bio-balls?

I never met a bracket my dremel tool couldn't adjust :D ...But your idea will work...I guess...if that's the way you want to do it. (thank you Red Green Show).

Increase the bio-load slowly. so as not to trigger a mini-cycle or alae bloom.

Adding one or two fish that size at a time and waiting a week or two before adding any more.
