We have had our flordia gar for about 5 years now and we have have tried so many different types of food such as blood worms, krill, mealworms and ect and he will eat nothing but feeders which i know is so bad for him. Hes in a 100 gal and one time i had put a baby flower horn in just for a day till i got another tank for him and the gar ate him also another day i put in 2 mollies and he ate those too. Im starting to think hell only eat live fish...little bugger!

its very hard to train a gar to eat pellets, try nightcrawlers and crickets, its better for them than feeder goldfish

they can be pretty stubborn when it comes to diet
did you stop feeding him for awhile before you switched the food
and then you also don't stop feeding it until he eats it
but be sure not to stave him

Well to be honest with you 5 years ago i did not know the feeders were not good for him, im kinda learning on my own and whatever i read but the feeders were his diet ever since i got him. He is in with other fish that eat pellets andi have never seen him eat them or krill, crickets, mealworms. Also since i have had him i have seen him eat mabey 5-6 times but i know hes eating cause i have to buy feeders every week. Can anyone else recommend either a way to feed him or something else thats good for him to eat.

Thanx thats actually what i started to do last week i bought a whole wack of them and gave them their own tank to breed in im sure hell eat them

Guppies, Platies, depending on the gar's size, maybe endler's livebearers, cherry barbs, honey gouramis (again, depending on gar's size), head-and-tail light tetras are easy to breed. Realistically, any feeder you breed youself and feed good food (good flake, frozen, etc.) will be plenty nutritious, excluding, of course, goldfish.
