Thankyou so much for great advice. I love this pike so much and i just want to do whats right for him. I will be very commited and im sure hell be eating great in no time. (or mabey some time lol) but im willing to wait. Thanx again.

:D:D:DGar aren't pike. they'reGinglymodi and belong to the Lepisosteidae family.

No, pike are related to the pickerel and muskellunge (I'm guessing you've got pickerel and muskie up there?) but not gar. I think it's the name "garpike" that's used for them, but they're not closely related at all.

Yep that's a longnose gar, same genus as the florida/spotted gar, there's a few folks here who have them (city of evil for one).

Definitely try the drop-feeding method, I got my adopted florida gar off feeders and onto f/d krill in 2 days that way. Will be much easier for you and better for the fish in the long run.

Hey there you said it took you two days to switch him, i was just woundering how long he ate feeders for. Just to kinda get a timeline lol. I fed him feeders for 5 yrs so i hope it wont be to hard. Tomorrow im going to go and get proper food for him and start the new mission.

Not sure, I adopted him and the previous owner had him for a year or so. He'd always eaten feeders, I was told he was 12" long but more like 14" when I got him. I gave him some feeders the first day I got him, then tried the drop method, feeder, feeder, pellet, feeder, etc and he tried the pellets but spit them. Next day I tried again but with f/d krill instead of pellets and he ate them.

Ive tried the drop method tonight and no go. I have a feeling he is going to be stubborn. How long do i let it go before throwing in feeders for him to eat? Hes so use to 30 goldfish swimming around him each week for years so im sure hes going to be a bit stubborn at first.
