Im looking for ideas on my stock and what I should do with it?? I want to know what you would do if it was your tank! The tank is a 150 gallon with 40 gallon sump with 1200gph. The dimensions are 48"x24"x30" and I plan to add some more driftwood. I have had some troubles with my oscar and HITH but he is doing better and it is improving!!
Stock-
12" oscar
18" fire eel (hides in the log)
3" fire mouth
3" upside down catfish
10" pleco

I would say you are fully stocked, and likely your eel is being bullied if it hides all the time. adding more driftwood should help. being as HITH, or HLLE is geenrally caused by poor water quality or feeding. I wouldn't consider adding anything even then until the Oscar is firmly healed and your water quality/feeding is consistantly better. Adding more bio-load to the tank would only increase the stress on your oscar and either reverse the progress in fixing his issues or put it into limbo. I would say getting rid of your pleco if it's an option would free-up alot of your bio-load for the tank. otherwise depending how your filtration is set-up. You may be able to add some silver dollars as a nice dither imo, but I would wait awhile until the Oscar is healed up completely and the issue has been resolved.

get a bulkier piece of wood, a back drop, some plastic plants, and gold lighting. maybe some silver dollars or a jaguar for an amazon look if thats what your after.

Im thinking the pleco has to go also... He seems to be a pop machine but not eat much. The thing about the HITH was that I got the oscar like that 8 months ago and it didn't get works for 5 out of the 8 months but about 3 months ago it started to get worse and Ive medicated him the best I can with Metro MS and salt in a smaller med tank. My Sump has a good 15 gallons of bio media that have 5 spray bars going over it and then a filter sock on the second 'intake" pipe. I Have 1200 gph running on the tank and have gotten that I have to much filtration and also have been told to little. So give me ideas or thoughts on all this.

Plecos are poop machines and he may turn on your other fish if he's not getting enough to eat. Your filtration does sound liek it's doing the job but as they say a pic is worth a thousand words. so a pic of it would help.. but I think it should be fine. What is your water change routine? as this is also important in decideing stocking amounts besides fish sizes.

did you actually see worms wriggleing out of the pits or simply pits?... HITH and HLLE are often confused with eachother and are treated very differently. has the Metro and salt helped?

I'll post a pic of the filter tonight and the metro and salt has helped a little but he does still have the pits. The HITH is getting better though. Along with that I change my water once a week (%30 change).
