what filter for 300 gallon tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wouldn't use a canister filter for that tank actually IMO I would build a W/D or a sump. Most canister filters made for aquarium use aren't rated high enough IMO.

For the best bang for the buck go wet/dry.

i live in a appartment, im not sure if wet/dry is an option.. so if you had to choose a canister? would a FX5 be enough?

I suppose if I had to chose canister for a 300 I would wait.

Out of curiosity, why would a canister be ok while a wet/dry is not.

maybe he is concerned with weight? But a FX5 is 16x17 round and 16inches high or something....Anyway, an FX5 is rated for 400 gallons, but I would do alittle more then that.....Maybe an FX5, a 404......something like that, or two FX5's but that might be over kill.

yea well if your looking for a canister i say a fx5 and throw on a 404/405 in that range will get you around 4 times turn over as sic said two fx5's would be a little bit uneecessary but still wouldnt hurt there just a little expensive you should be able to get one for 190 shipped on ebay or for 175 from johnptc here on mfk

Never heard of an XP5, are you looking for an XP4?
