What Filter for a 1000g Pond??

Having finally fixed a leak on my pond, I am now ready to get a decent filter for it. There wont be anything fancy in it just goldfish.

The pond measures 11ft x 6ft x 2ft deep.

What is the best method of filtration for ponds?

My fish tank has a sump with filter sock and biomedia turning over ~8x an hour. What is a decent turnover rate for a pond and what type of media is best?

Would rather build something if it works out cheaper than buying a 'box kit'

About how much sun does it get on a daily basis (full sun, part sun, etc.)?

not much living in UK but we do get a fair bit in summer and it's not shaded at all.

perhaps a do it yourself filter? buy a pump, and one of those big plastic tubs. fill it with filter pads bio balls etc..whatever u want with it. its what i used when i had a 500gallon goldfish pond. and stock it with plants like water lily water lettuce etc...for some natural filtration. also kept my water clean and clear.

what type of pump? what type of return? how big should the filter be? what about a uv light?

Here is a great site for pond building, there are all kinds of build threads and people that make their own filters. That is where I learned about ponds and filteration before I built my 3400 gallon pond.

Well the best thing is gravity fileration, you run from a bottom drain to a settling chamber to filter out the large waste then either gravity flow to a bio filter or pump to a bio filter. This way you are not mincing up all the waste and making it harder to remove. My pond is self cleaning all the waste is pulled through a 4" bottom drain and into a 270 gallon settling chamber then gravity flow to a 100 gallon moving bed bio filter, then pumped back to the pond through 4-1.5" returns. All I ever need to do is dump the settling chamber to get rid of the waste. I also have a skimmer circuit that runs through a UV and to the waterfall and spitters.
