I thought this would be an interesting thread........... I know there are really rare fish out there and stuff but what fish do you have or any fish for that matter are worth the money..........

I think that the silver arowana because it isn't that expensive (I love black aros but rarity doesn't count and they are a duller gray when adult) but silvers are always moving really cute when babys and are just beautiful fish...........

to me things like really expensive plecos I don't understand.... I mean plecos aren't really a "crowd pleaser" they kinda just sit and are lazy... so besides the rarity what do they "show" but I mean I like the green phantom plecs and zebras are beautiful

I hope you guys can understand the thread....... it may be confusing

also asain aros are amazing with the colors but are really expensive... besides rarity why spend 1,000's of $ of that when you could get a less expensive but even more majestic black or silver aro

but what are your opinions?

if you can find good looking firemouths, they are cheap and are absolutely worth it, gold saums are worth it too even though they are a little bit more expensive for cichlids, as are good looking JDs, red devil/midas and jags are fairly cheap too and great looking fish

It all comes down to taste preference. What you like and how much you are willing to pay to buy it. I like rare predatory fish that the average Joe doesn't keep. It could be the ugliest fish, for example, I love P. Fowleri cats. To most it's, the ugliest fish they have seen, but to me I think they are awesome and not everyone has one. You couldn't give me a parrot cichlid, but some people are willing to pay big bucks for one of them. So you see, just buy what you like, not what everyone else has or thinks is cool.

I agree with everyone so far.

The fish I have I love. My Tigrinus and Lenticulata pike were definately worth what I paid for them (as were my other fish but they were less expensive).

Some fish that I would spend the dough on if I had it (and enough room) include rays (leos in particular), exotic pim cats, black and silver aros, various species of peacock bass, pike cichlids, and zebra plecos

Some fish that I wouldnt spend the money n even if I had it are asian aros, most piranha (look cool but do nothing), most saltwater (beautiful but they dont interest me), and most types of hybrid cichlids.

I agree with everyone ,IT COME'S DOWN TO TASTE..... but you can't disagree with the fact that asian arow's , peacock bass & datniod's even ray's are high dollar fish... :D

I think clown loaches are the best value-for-$ fish :grinyes:

Cheap, tons of personality and they get on with almost all fish (except the ones that eat them of course)

JB

P.s. Out here in Taiwan, most fish are cheaper than in the west, but the tradeoff is that things like decent steak/wine, cream, cheese, etc. are hard to come buy...

While not exactly "high dollar" Uaru cichlids are a nice, more expensive than the norm, fish to keep. Not as hardy as your typical CA/SA cichlid, but also not nearly as common either. I got a good deal on mine ($7), but I've seen them usually in the $20 range. Won't break your budget, and they're a beautiful fish.

I agree. Clowns are the best value. They have great coloration and can grow to monster size!

PP I like aros in general, but having seen an xback in person I can see that they are worth the money. It's a fish that has to be seen to truly appreciate, they are in another league to silvers etc
