Understood, but why are you laughing?
I laughed because folks react like the end of world with a fish would do fine in a .5 bowl, and there LFS selling a gold fish that will go into same exact bowl size to a little kid/parents daily in the US. The fact that a beta can live in .5 bowl for years while a gold fish last like 3 days?

A betta will not do fine in a 1/2 gallon of water. Stop saying that.

Now you got me laughing... I didn't think the friendly jab worthy of a response from you. Just meant it for others to get a mild chuckle. :p

You seem to be wanting to make this an US versus Asian fishkeeping thing. When there are plenty of jackasses in the US trying to keep betta/goldfish in too small enclosures.

Personally my LFS doesn't sell bowls and would never recommend housing any fish in a enclosure smaller than 5g.

betta, change the water every other day.

Hi my name is Daniel and I am new to fish keeping. I am starting out my hobby with this little tank just to get started. I was wondering if there is any fish that can live in this besides a beta fish? Also do fish grow to the size of the tank?

To be 1000% honest a 5 gallon isn't a beginner tank. The smaller the tank the more parameters will fluctuate. The larger the tank the less parameters will fluctuate. As far as stocking a 5 gallon. You can put in whatever you want however a betta would be the only reasonable option I would think of even putting in there

As others have said, this is not suitable for any fish. You need 10X that size minimum to comfortably home 1 beta.

I can think of a couple excellent uses for it though.

It can be used as a "clear cave structure" within a larger tank setup.

It would also work like a champ as a stagnant outside water source to grow mosquito larvae as feeders for your beta.

My daughters have friends who kept a betta in about a .5gal vase for 2 years. I didn't want to come across as a PETA member, so I half-heartedly suggested a larger tank if possible, but if that wasn't going to happen then at least do plenty of water changes (like 100% every other day) and I gave them a good supply of my NLS pellets. They ended up doing about 100% w/c twice a week, but did keep using the NLS. Surprisingly, it grew to be one of the largest betta I have ever seen.

I'm not condoning this........................but it is, what it is.
