Have a pretty large, 100% natural pond in front of my house.

I'm semi-seriously considering putting something in there. What would comfortably survive in there? A gar, channel catfish?

How big? Gar def but if you'd want to do gar and channel cats then do Florida gars and channel cats. If just gars go for an alligator gar even a couple of them depending how big the pond is. Does it have plant filtration atlest?

a picture will work better than just words!

IF you live in CT youre going to want a cold water fish, or if it freezes over youre going to need an indoor pond. As for your question, if its a large enough pond, to a pt where you wouldnt know gallonage, then you should be fine with plenty of different choices, if its big but not that big then gar, bowfin, catfish, these all can survive on little Oxygen if need be.

It's pretty large. 300 feet by... hm... 300 feet? Roughly.

It's completely surrounded by trees, the water peters out depth wise for about 50 feet near the far back and right side of the pond.

I know I have choices when it comes to what I could stock the pond with, but I'm curious what can live there very comfortably.

Channels, Koi, Bass, Sturgeon, panfish theres alot you could put in there.

All true gars, bowfin, and sturgeons are definitely out for you considering the fact that they are illegal to own in Connecticut.

Based on those dimensions, go big or go home; get yourself a large native catfish or a few larger predatory fishes such as pike. Also, stock some bass, bluegill, and minnows to provide food for the bigger fish(es).
