Never taken a fish back, only ever rehomed one(Not counting selling hundreds of pearl gouramis and bristlenose) and that was a black shark who killed almost everything in the tank.

I owned an Oscar for about 24 hours when I was 14. Returned it after it killed a few fish and I realized I wasn't going to be able to house it properly long term.

Also gripping with the idea of rehoming some of my current fish to be happier with the tank, but I'm finding myself too emotionally attached to them.....

Only fish I’ve gotten rid of were baby kribs (couldn’t keep them all in the tank) and 3 red belly pacu and 3 banded leporinus years ago before I moved, and they were getting a little too big.

If my Wallace’s shoehead catfish started randomly killing anything that was with them (if I had ever put them in with other fish) then I’d let them. Those are my dream fish and no gourami or guppy is gonna get in the way.

Even when fish attack the ones I really like, I look at it as survival of the fittest. It sucks when it happens, but if I buy something it is because I really want it.

Yes, IMO aggressiveness in fish is inevitable. But i do impulse buy so some fish I buy are just randomly picked, lol....

Usually people try to hold on to fish they've just bought. What were some of the reasons, and fish that had to be taken back to the pet store, or given to someone?

My wife and I were strolling around our LFS last year and she was taken with some very cute little catfish in one of their display tanks. The sales guy informed me they stay quite small and were really placid. So I bought three.

I got home and researched them and found out that, as adults, they would be about 2 feet long and killers!

They went back, and quick.

They were colombian cat sharks.

RTC for a 60 gallon tank after being told that they grow very slowly, I bought it on impulse and did some research when I got home and took it back the next day.

I've heard that situation place out, with many different people. It seems like you truly can't trust LFS's, or widespread fish sellers on giving information about fish sizes, and environments. I'm not sure how this was mixed up. What type of fish was it listed as? But yes, in that case i'm sure that Colombian Cat Shark went back almost immediately after you found that out, lol.
