You dont wanna know, but it was 4 figures....lol
Ok I wanna know....

I overpaid for all my bichirs (except the two most recent Endli's)

Because they came from a very very clean LFS and had great markings. I would have paid double its all about quality , healthy fish. They certainly fit the bill and of course still do.

Great thread by the way, can't wait to read some horror stories.

OK i'll give you a ton of that :grinno:

1- When i was a beginner i paid 3$ for a couple of common bronze gold fishes 4cm each usually being sold for 1$ /dozen as a feeder, But my fishes had something extra: ick plus red fins and swimming bladder disease.

2- Next day i bought 5 sowrd tails for 5$, Usually it is 1$ for 5 or 6 sowrdtails

3- An LFS owner i know paid 100$ for 20 fancy name fishes to discover they were common Ugandan tilapia can buy them for less than 1$ / Kilo in fish market.

4- 2 mouths ago i paid 25$ for 5 (2cm) yoyo loaches were staving to death- 2 of them died in a couple of days- the market price was 5$ for the 5 loaches

I would tell more stories but i already feeling bad remembering :irked:

£10 for 14" swamp eel... was a terrible fish and wasnt worth a penny...

I thought $28 for our new hybrid Blood Parrot was pricey.. but he is the most gorgeous blood parrot I've ever had and so far he's kept his exceptional coloring.

Pictures?

Mine was also a blood parrot....he was $40 but is a gorgeous deep coral red colour and I just had to have him. His mate is still at the pet store and I badly want her but I'm having a hard time with $40 price tag.

My "wild caught" Oscar. $25 is easily three times what I could have gotten a similar Oscar for at four inches. Especially with my local petsmart getting oddball wild O's so frequently. But my guy was an F1 from Rapps, then through a local fish store I was happy to support. Since I do plan on keeping this fish for his whole life, I figured $25 is nothing in the long run with live food, dechlorinator, etc.

My L200 pleco was about $45 at four inches. Is that a bit high? He's the subviridis, if that's the more common, bigger one.
I would've never thought that petsmart would sell wild o's. You have any pics of it???

- $70 for my wolf (hoplias malabaricus) at around 5 inches
- $30 for my wild Jag at around 2 inches
- $40 for my banjo cat, although it is a pretty rare species that i still haven't seen sold around here
- $20 for a dwarf puffer
- $20 for an oscar around 1.5 - 2 inches
