What fish is this??

So i bought a fish yesterday. The guy told me about it before I bought the fish and said the technical name but I dont remember. To make things worse my camera just recently broke. Its a goldish brownish color with 5 black spots going down the length of his body and has red tipped fins. He also said that he gets to be a foot long and really aggressive. The shape and color kinda reminds me of a peacock bass.

i will need pics. the gold/brown and lateral spoting sounds like a parachromis or amphilophus species . The red trimmed fin's is a Gold Saum trait.

Almost impossible to give you an accurate ID based on your description. Find a way to get some pics. That's the only way you'll be able to get a positive ID.

I have 6 of them and two have paired up. They are mean fish, the other fish in your tank will learn quickly not to turn their back to them. They are lightning fast.

As of right now he/she is getting owned by my manganese. Should I buy another? I just read that they wont show there full colors if left by them selfs. Is the true?

Yes buy a couple more. You wait the managuense will learn once the frempongi gets established. They can take a beating also.

no don't buy more till you find out what they are either rearange the decor or add dithers if you have room or try and move it to another tank if its getting beaten up
