What fish is this?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I kept mine in a group of 6, with lots of juvie nicaraguense.

Very nice group. In the past (10 years ago), people always warned about conspecific aggression so I only bought one. Now it seems all cribroheros species do best in groups. I am guessing those who had aggression problems either didn't have a big enough tank and big enough groups.
I have zero aggression between rostratus and robertsoni. Same with keeping them w/ thorichthys. I think the conspecific aggression is BS now.

Thanks guys. Yeah he is already healing up and getting some colour back. I will take some more pics soon but after taking a closer look at robertsoni I think that's what he is. The guy who previously owned my local fish store for 30 years used to have a number of these guys some alot bigger than the one I managed to save. He recently retired and the new owner of the store didn't even know what the fish was and I had not seen them much before. My tank is a bit of a mix at the moment pretty much growing out some american cichlids, a sizable ghost knife fish, and some red claw crayfish. I am keeping an eye on aggression levels and making sure no one is getting harassed. If there's any problems I will remove the aggressor.

Too bad about the change of hands at the lfs, there are far to few well run lfs around these days. Very nice pick up though, not a very common fish in the hobby.
