I just completely redid my 55g planted tank to make it into a SA cichlid tank. I took out my ecocomplete (150$ worth :O() and replaced it with sand, i also added a ton more rocks to make caves and such and a few pieces of drift wood. The tank has 2 magnum 350 filters and 2 200watt heaters along with ah supply lights.

What i want to do is get a jack dempsey as the main fish and then have several convict cichlids in the tank and a smaller pleco or 2 as well. I have decided on the JD over the ebjd because of all the concerns i have heard with EBJD dying at a relatively young age. I had heard that JD's are slow growers.

Is my tank capable of supporting these fish? If not when they are full grown how long do you think my tank will be adeqaute for them? I really do not want to get a bigger tank for a few years. Thank you.

I think a JD with 2 Male Convicts would be fine in there for life has long as you keep up with ur wc's.
A male JD will be about 8"+/- in a year.

Do you think i would be able to get a pleco or two in there as well?

What other combinations do you guys think would be good in my tank with a JD?

some firemouths, id also go with maybe a blood parrot if your willing to keep up with water changes. biggest ive seen was 9 inches. they also grow slow

depends what type of pleco

One of the smaller varieties, i know a lot of them get huge.
I was thinking of a snowball pleco, or a rubbernose, and possibly a vampire pleco. Not sure which one i prefer best. The vampire gets bigger then the rest, but they are slow growers i have heard.

male green terror

JD is all the cichlid you will need for a 55 gallon. While a juvenile several fish are fine, but I wouldnt keep it for life, for the sake of all the fishes health. Smaller plecos are cool idea too.
