What fish would you consider the hardest to keep alive?

What sort of Rams are people having trouble with? Different strains/color morphs are notoriously weaker than others.

I would say, in order of difficulty from hardest to easiest, it goes like this:

Gold Ram (weakest Ram, very poorly bred morph), German Ram (very picky about water conditions but keepable with practice), Bolivian Ram (very hardy and easy to keep).

If you want Rams and are willing to sacrifice a little color for a very stable fish, go with Bolivians! I love my pair, had them for well over a year now after experimenting with other Rams for months with little success.

True, but with gt's sometimes no medication will work. I have also experienced this "mystery disease". It comes out of nowhere, and lasts a couple weeks. There is nothing you can really do, but try to get it to eat veggies, which most of the time won't happen, because they stop eating period. Do a search on it. You will see that it's more than just a coincidence how many people have this problem.

Yeah it's very difficult to deal with. I tried everything with my Silver Saum, but nothing seemed to work. For that reason I won't be keeping GT's ever again. :(

I gave up on Rams/ apistos. Terrible lack of success. On a side note, ANY KIND OF KNIFE, that I added to the tank with my original and still tiny killer African brown knife.

longhorned cowfish are very are and octopus they are hard to keep cause they are experts on getting out of the tank!!

i would say rams too...gave up on them while ago,, i can keep apistos just fine buy not rams,, i think it has to day with where they come from,,, i always bought mine at the lfs,, and they never made it more than two weeks...i have never tried from a breeder ,, or someone who keeps them... they beg me to buy them every time i go to lfs too,, i just growl and walk away... gggggrrrrrr

I'll say that "fw" flounders are the most difficult for me, I've tried on about 3 occassions, going so far as having species tank with sand and all the supposed requirements, and have never gotten them to accept any food, live or not

+ 1 to the pipefish .. I managed to keep and breed one of the larger species.. and eventually would love to try the FW ones.. But they take some seriouse dedication to daily care. Everything about these guys is challenging.
