soooo... i'm assuming there's nothing terribly flashy (sorry for being shallow) that doesn't stay under 6-8"...
not that the smaller pikes that have been recommended are bad, but i'm just wondering if there's some nice red pike with striations etc. that fits the size department i'm thinking about...
ah well
There are man, you just have to check into the Sax species a little bit, or actually
check on the Cren Frenata.....8-10 inch range, females being smaller then males
Crenicichla menezesi ..........perfect size range and very nice color when mature
Just go Lugubris pikes bro, it will open up a whole lot of options up for you, and most of the fish you keep will be just fine with them. Actually, I think it would be better to get the larger pikes for what you have currently, unless you have plans for a smaller tank.
Crenicichla anthurus is absolutely gorgeous, but can be a pain to find. The pikes that Alex (Fish Room Plus) has would fit the bill as well. Crenicichla sveni, Crenicichla lucius, Crenicichla proteus...just to name a few. Not many pikes that aren't Lugubris get as red though. Thats mainly your Lugubris pikes. The females of the Saxatilis and Dwarf pikes will get red bellies and gorgeous coloration, but your not gonna get the same results as you would with Lugubris.
Go with Crenicichla johanna. Rapps has some of the Rainbow variant right now, totally gorgeous pikes! Relatively mellow as well, as far as pikes go.
