what gar could i keep

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd recommend a black arowana as a gar companion over a silver, they seem less aggressive than silvers in general. Though a big gar will still beat up either type of arowana if it feels like it.

Not an advisable combo, I only do it with a black because I have enough big tanks where I can easily and permanently separate large fish.

This may not always be true as my two blacks pretty much own the two larger silvers. Though really any aggression within my tank is non existent. The black would be a better choice though as they are less skittish. Chances of them "freaking out" is less likely, which I believe is the biggest danger to the gar. I've been tempted to add gar to my tank but feel it would just be too much risk. Especially now that I've scaled back, my next largest tank to the 450g is a 40g breeder:eek: Though I do still have the rubbermaid tub for emergencies.

So for now when I need to get a gar fix I just have to watch your vids or catch some of the get pics here in the gar forum.

Once grown the gar will go in a 150 long tank. I would like to uprgrade to a 180-2++ in like 2 years. Is there a gar i could keep for 2 years in a 150?

Quick question: What are the dimensions of "150 long"?

Just FYI: My FL Gar grew from 3-4 inches to nearly 18 inches in a little over 14-15 months.

Good luck,
Sid
