Hello, I'm new to Flowerhorn and just wanted to know what grade mine would be considered. He's only about 4" now, any input would be awsome. Thank you.

I'm not sure if I understand that "grades" thing well enough to talk about FH grades myself, nevertheless I think your fish is a very good quality FH, not MP but yet a beautiful and promising FH.
Firstly let us understands what does ZZ mean. ZZ = zenzu (mandarin) = pearls. So what is a ZZ pearls? As you can see the earliest of ZZ do not have any pearls dots on their body so how did they come about the name pearls? For your information, the pearls on the ZZ means the each dark flowerline found on the ZZ body which was surrounded by some metalic hue & glow which resemble a black pearl shine. You may want to get back to your ZZ flowerhorn now to know what I am saying.
Ok, so it is the flowerline that determine the grade of a ZZ.
Grade A - flowerline should be more than 75% to 100%.
Grade B - flowerline should be more than 50% to 75%.
Grade C - flowerline which are less than 50% or only a few dots.
From Grade A, we could gradually know if the ZZ is going to be a AA or AAA later by determining the growth traits of the fish with the written explanation.
1. Kok - the bigger the better.
2. Colors - the more solid & colorful the better.
3. Body - the stout & thicker the better.
4. Finnage & Tail - Balance & proportion.
5. Flowerline - the darker & more shiny pearls surround it the better.

thanks but i can not take credit i found his a long while ago before i was about to get into the whole FH thing. and i saved it to my word file. but it is so helpful hopefully it helps other out and i think that it helps everyone to understand this "grading".
Also just to note that if your flowerhorn starts off as a "C" rating but has great of the other qualities it would still in fact remain "C" to "CC" to "CCC" also Flowerhorns (like mine) that has a double flower line or even more rare case where there is a triple flowerline they usually will have a "A" to start if not "AA" but they can still have flaws for thats the highest rating it would get.
Just remember that this is your fish and the rating thing is only to make breeders more money according to these specs that all if you have a Flowerhorn with a 50% complete flowerline but its has a huge personalility then you have a great fish. So unless you are going to judge your fish all the time or eneter or looking to sell something that is unreal and beautiful then i guess the grading is okay to use. i didnt buy my flowerhorn with any intent to ever sell. hes wasy to much like a dog a.k.a "wet pet". I hop you understand this if you have any question please feel free to ask as i have done more reading in the past month than most people do in a year just on flowerhorns. You flowerhorn is beautiful its a ZZ with what looks to be a nice pearl pattern and nice red coloring. I think its great and hopefully you love him to. where did you purchase ur new flowerhorn from?

thats all that matters with any fish. esp if you have a fish that has tons of personality/character. i find that to be better than any color pattern on the fish. Retailers may disagree lol.
