What gymnos? i need the gymno experts

Lemon tetra come from the north of Brazil (Rio Tapajós, etc.) so I think they would be intolerant of a cool period

What is the difference between the two groups?
G. gymnogenys group are more elongate, sexually dimorphic and mouth brooders, and rhabdotus group are monomorphic and substrate spawners. They are almost always found together in nature. G. gymnogenys-type like the current of the main channel and rhabdotus-type do not, preferring calmer areas. The gymnogenys group contains G. gymnogenys, G. labiatus and an assemblage of G. cf. gymnogenys. The rhabdotus group contains G. rhabdotus, G. meridionalis and an assemblage of G. ex-meridionalis (like G. n.sp. "Norte"). On Felipe Cantera's site (AqvaTerra) G. n.sp. "Norte" is G. n.sp. "Sequeira"

ok, thanks for the info.
so no lemon tetras, what other ones then?
They have white clouds would they work, and are they a schooling fish?

White Clouds would be good, until the Gymnos got big enough to eat them (Oblongum too) :D Rhabdotus/Ex-Meridionalis types are best kept in pairs, Gymnogenys types are good in groups (more females than males). I think your tank will be too small once Oblongum or Rhabdotus/Ex-Meridionalis begin to spawn, they may not be large cichlids, but, they are cichlids none the less.

Try some Buenos Aires Tetras, Serpaes may work as well.

ya i didn't know how big white clouds get, i have learned my lesson before with my chocolate cichlid, 5 tetras gone. So i should only do a pair of blue neons right?

I have heard the oblongums are super peaceful even with breeding, so i tought i could get away with it. hmm, so many choice and options. i know i have to stick with the oblongums and the blue neons since i already have them.

i like gymnogenys better. i can't wait till mine spawn i think the mouth brooders will be alot cooler than the substrate spawners. i had "el norte" and they were quite colorful though. im looking to get a few more quillero and a small group of Rhabdotus

Hi, how are you? For me in a 46 g, you should add only one group of gymnos, and rhabdotus are colourfull and also smaller and quiet than the ones from gymnogenys group and better for you tank. And yes, im agree with BIGPIC, add some tetras of the area, serpae, golden bifasciatus, buenos aires or some blue bryconamericus that are very nice...Good luck

i already have one blue neon so i think i am going to stick with that group
So the stocking is
pair of oblongums
3 blue neons
how many buenos aires tetras?

I like the gymnos a lot. My LFS has some el nortes and I'd love to keep them, but my tanks sit in the living room and I don't know how to simulate a cool down period. Any tips on this from anybody?
