Wow 90% what type of fish are you doing these water cahnges on?

Would you do a 90% with any fish or only certain types?
all types, mostly cichids currently. ive kept a reasonable number of different fish tho from tetras to pacus to bichirs to pictus cats to barbs to gouramies.

all waterchanges do, is remove dissolved organic contaminants and nitrates. they can't change anything else unless you wait for immense periods between water changes, allowing the tankwater to reach a much lower pH than normal due to all the waste. theoretically your tapwater's natural parameters could change, but if ever has for me, its never caused my fish trouble.

I do 20% weekly sometimes 2x a week depending on readings.I dont use a dechlorinator as I have well water, the water does shift ph from 7.0 to 7.5-8.0 24-48 hrs after its out of the tap(something to do with dissolved co2) so i wouldnt want to do more than 20% at a time

I try to do 2 35% weekly...and one large 60% every two weeks. I would do more but my RO unit only does 30gals a day...so it takes time to fill it up...lol. I do do large water changes...where the fish have to turn on their sides.....the biggest problem there is indeed the water temp and the pH.....if you can keep those within a reasonable range it should work. I am cautious doing large water changes at the moment cuz i have some rare fish i would hate to loose. I have done large water changes where the temp went from 82 degrees to almost 65 degrees.....and the only side effects I had from it was the fish increased their slime coats. Aside from that they all pulled outa it fine....those were cichlids by the way... ;) ...they are troopers!

p 45 - is the water not too cold when you change 90%? Or do you have 10 heaters all lying on the bottom of the tank?

I change 25% weekly. My water is always clear and nitrates low. I use stress coat and stress zyme.

I do 3 50% changes every 2 weeks. So basically 50% every 4 or 5 days. Keeps the fish nice and happy.

I have hard water which is why i use the RO...i am having troubles wit algae though...grr....cuz i have so much light....its weird though, cuz its not like its really algae..its almost like its the drift wood decaying or sumptin...or maybe the peat gettin outa the bags. My tankz are sooo dark though, wit the black spray painted back and sides and black sand....i think i am gonna change the sand out to white sand so i can see the fishies better...lol.....otherwise my water is clear! :D
