hmmm good question, i actually studdied that Jesus was born like 5-6 B.C....

This is where the 1st post comes back:D

The red letters in my last post is a good theory:D

they decided it was easier for everyone to start now than later. so they started recording 2010 years ago.

Jesus was born around 5b.c approx., but it is tradition to say He was born in Year 0. The reason this is believed is because it is "Anno Domini" (AD) or "in the year of Our Lord"

there was no year 0, though it went 1 b.c. to 1 a.d...lol

We westerners use the Gregorian calendar. Created by Gregorian monks & definitely based on the religious events outlined in the bible. There are several other calendars in use throughout the world, but the Gregorian is used for international purposes, just like Arabic numerals & metric measurements.

I thought it was the day Jesus was born. I mean our years are based off of Jesus right? I guess not if your not Christian or whatever, but for me I see it that way.

I guess this answer will depend on your faith, I'm sure some religious sects think that chickens made earth at this time....who knows.

Take all things into consideration. Jesus was here...Why else would we base all time around Jesus' birth forward?? No offense to anyone here....

I've never heard of Jesus being born in 5-6 b.c....But I like to take in as much info as possible on the subject and form my own opinions and truths...

The Gregorian Calendar that we use today is based on the Anno Domini calendar that preceded it. The Anno Domini dating system was originated by Dionysius Exiguus in the year 525. It is based on year 1 being the year of Christ's conception. However, since there were 525 years between the supposed date of Christ's conception and the implementation of the Anno Domini calendar, there are many doubts about the accuracy of this.

My lord did you all fall asleep in history class?

Our calendar is also based of the Roman calendar which was taken from the Egyptian calendar. The start year was set because of religious reasons in the West (Europe). Since the Church (Roman one) secured their future to the rule of the Western Kings with the cornination of CHarles the Great. Since then the luck of the West eventually winning out and adding imperialism into the mix the calendar was forced onto the world. The Hebrew calendar has us in the 5000s.

Abbreviation for the term Before Christ. Years are counted back from the traditionally recognized year of Christ's birth. In academic, historical, and archaeological circles, this term is now generally replaced by Before Common Era (BCE).

As a history Teacher we use BCE and CE

No it is not a conspiracy to remove religion from the classroom. It is hard to teach history and not talk, discuss, and argue about it.

I am super disappointed that people really did not know what happened in zero, and more so though that man was not around at zero.
