gas i'm sure is an issue..

but i think another thing has to do with export of Black...

Isn't it illegal in brazil to export black arowana? I know that most of the Blk being exported are out in Columbia....

And then theres also the economy playing a role.. :(
Yeah it has to be more than just gasoline/shipping expenses. Inflation and gas price raising are contributing factors, as are supply and demand, but something like illegal exportation is more likely the source.

I purchased an Juvie Black Arowana about 8 years ago for under 30 bucks. (I live outside of Philadelphia) in fact I ordered it from Petco. I unfortunately killed it due to my stupidity. The silvers were 20 or so. Now they're very very expensive. What happened to the market in the last 8 years?

what happened is MFK wasn't around, so Rich wasn't hooking us up back then. :duh:

If you cut the supply in half, it only makes sense that prices go up. Less competition, more profit.

I'm not so sure it's illegal trade. Brazil is really starting to pay attention to this sort of thing. They're buckling down.

yeah .. im not from the states .. econmy stuff never effected me a whole lot when it all happened but not just that. between supply and demand and also the value of a dollar too doesnt seem like long and not sure about the states but here in NL canada minimum wage for example has gone up almost 4 dollars over the past 6+ years. inflation over time. thats such a pet peeve of mine .. like when you hear grandparents saying .. ya i used to be able to get a movie chips drink and gas to get there for a dollar fifty .. yes but min wage was like 3 dollars or less back then .. up to 10 (here) now .. anyways thats my rant haha. didnt stay on topic at all (as i had this discussion with a co worker today)

I can't be 100% certain on blk arowana i've heard it from a whole seller i asked some months back on blk arowana availablility..

but i do know.. Exotic pleco prices are high is due to Brazil's banned on exporting plecos.. mainly Goldie pleco.. and all the L-24 L-25s

yeah prices on blk aros have soared, but lately I have been seeing them for alot less than usually. is it baby black season?????

Im in the I.E socal and they are like 50 bucks for a a 3-4 incher but if i drive to OC which is like 45 mins away i can get them for like 15 bucks so i guess its just supply and demand.

All that I hear about Brazil not allowing animal export really intrigues me.Chaitika what do you mean that they are starting to pay attention and buckle down?I notice that the price of Jardini seems to be getting lower.I remember when baby jars were over one hundred dollars and now I see them going for less than fifty bucks.

my best guess is that because blacks are getting harder and harder to come by, suppliers are trying to find a substitute for them, and thus they are bringing in more and more jardinis, the more jars available the less valuable they are
