What happens to confiscated Asians?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Probably destroyed, but lets hope they are taken to public aqariums.

That's what I expected. It seems really stupid. It's indangered so you can't have it / keep it alive, so we're going to kill it. That just doesn't seem logical.

I know for a fact that Rheinhardt(spelling?) in San Fran. has/had a lot of Asian Aros that were confiscated or intercepted in customs.

I dont know...I have experience with confiscated birds and fish here in Miami. Theyr are placed in quarantine..and then "donated"to zoo's and such...Also know of a few cases where agents ended up keeping them. YOu didnt hear that form me though...

and those guys are probably the same ones that try to sell on ebay. :naughty:

They are likely taken to public aquaria. Destroying an Asian arowana would be considered a "take" under the federal Endangered Species Act.

I hear public aquariums and zoos have a hard time aquiring an Asain Aro so it wouldn't surprise me if they gave those fish to them.

I wonder if thats how the shedd aquarium got theirs...... I looked for someone to ask while I was there but had no luck.
