i purchaced a hamilton caymen 150w hqi pendant with night leds for my 28 gal nano. i am going to run a radium 20k bulb with no actinic supplimentation.

i heard the minimum height over the water should be around 5".

any suggestions?

Meh...you wanna watch tank temp...and you wanna make sure you arent getting anything onto the bulb, and as little as possible salt creep etc on the glass and the other stuff down there.

The closer it is, the better PAR values you are gunna get, just dont get too intense.

i plan on using a glass top between the light and the water. i dont want my clowns to jump out.

clowns are not jumpers. There may have been exceptions over time, but I am willing to wager not many.

I agree, I kept a pair in my 90 g for almost a year with no top and never had an issue!

should i not use a glass top? i can try without for a bit. i can lower the overflow some.

I wouldnt use a lid. I did for a while and took it off recently and have loved the results. Lowering the over flow would be fine.

I would adjust it based on temp and actual light requirements in regards to wattage/depth of tank.

The only reason I have a lid is because evaporation and humidity were becoming issues in my home.

Once I take down a few tanks, and really focus in on this 125g, I will probably get covers made of an acrylic mesh...but take the lids off. Just for better light penetration.

Ok. Time to back up to clowns are not jumpers. Came home tonight to find one of my clowns dead on the floor. I'm a little upset about the " clowns are not jumpers" comment
