My male was gifted to me so I don’t know/remember what specific sp he is. I know what I am leaning towards but don’t want to influence the ideas just yet.
This is liberifer. They’re the only Heros that have red or orange dots arranged in horizontal lines. They’re also the the only Heros with tiny freckles instead or large spots or striation in the face.
By the looks of it, it’s likely a male, though I have seen a handful of females that show some freckling. I’ve also had a male that had none. So it’s a pretty accurate way of sexing but not 100%.
Thanks
neutrino and
ryansmith83. I agree as this was what I was leaning towards. What caused me to doubt is the picture on fish base doesn’t look like mine but he does match the description.
Now to figure out if he is compatible with my H. Notatus female
Even if it were possible (though I’ve never seen fry from a mouthbrooder and any of the substrate spawners), please don’t distribute these to anyone. Heros in the hobby are already a mess with all the hybridizing.

Update: moved the H. Notatus and H. Liberifer to the 220 and the turquoise and gold to the 120. The H. N. and H. L. are doing much better with the SDs than on their own. The SD could care less about tank mates at feeding time but even the Heros back off at first.
While trying to get ahead of the nitrates in the 220g I have done 5 50% water changes over the last week. Now the H.N. is in the mood. Really wish she had the partner to reciprocate.
