I'm still waiting for someone to try those new fluval HOB filters...
Here's ya guinea pig! I've been using them and I love the things. In fact, they are my favorite HOB power filters. I love the different stages of filtration, they are very easy and quick to clean, and also have a very easy to clean foam pad.

I like the aquaclears to, but for some reason, I have been unlucky with them. Also, as one person mentioned, I got tired of the lids rattling. But as also mentioned, you can just take the lid off.

Anyway... so far, I have not found any flaws with the Fluval, and now every filter I own is a Fluval, from the HOBs to the FX5 (though I am replacing the FX5 with a sump in the near future... no reason. Just like sumps better than canisters)! LOL...

The best HOB filter isn't made anymore "supreme Superking"

hahahaha I remmber those...the lights would dim when you plugged that sucker 1.2 gigawatts!

I'm using Eheim 2217, AC 70, AC 110 on my 55g with a FX5 on the way. The AC 70 is not made as well and to such tight tolerances as the 110 and so is louder.

I purchased the Fluval C4 about 2.5 months ago. Thus far I really like it, and I will be writing a review fairly soon. I can give a quick pro/con list:

Pros:
-better use of the space available
-very nice all-in-one filter
-still customizable (the carbon slot is large and can be replaced with just about anything)
-the flow regulator works very well
-extremely quiet
-intake tube height is very easy to adjust
-the intake tube is black, and the filter is dark grey, which is much more aesthetically pleasing

Cons:
-$60+
-Less flow than the ac110
-If you are looking for pure mechanical, the trickle chamber may be a waste of space, but I suspect it could still be used effectively with something like purigen.

A lot of people would say Aquaclear 110 HOB and I have 3 of them. I really think that the Penguiun 350 biowheel HOB is a good filter also and very underated.

I agree with this completely, but in fairness to the Fluval, I think it should be duly noted that the AC110 costs about $15 more than the C4, and it is rated for up to a 110 gallon tank, while the Fluval C4 is, of course, $15 less, and rated for up to a 70 gallon tank. Based on that, it would be expected that the flow would be less, and, consequently, the price.

if my common sense working commonly i would choose the AC110 then compare to the C4?
for 15 dollars more?
means more bang for the buck
