What HOB filter is the BEST??

Has anyone recommended AquaClear yet? :ROFL:
I've got 5 AC110's on various tanks. Only HOB I'd use. Run them all with the sponges and fill the rest with Biomax. No need for the carbon unless you are removing medication.

They are relatively loud (not too loud though), and are known for having their lids rattle around. Most people just remove the lids if this is an issue.

In my experience, the fluval C4 is the quietest HOB.

If you are looking for dead silent, then any HOB may be too noisy (except maybe the fluval C4). As you see from this thread, many people run AC110s on tanks in bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, etc, without having issues with the noise.
You can adjust to the slight increase in sound fairly quickly, and soon wont even think about it.
 
In my opinion the most bang for your buck HOB is the Marineland Penguin 350. These things are super cheap, quiet, and put out like a champ. If your on a budget get one of these, youll be happy with it...If your not I'll buy it from you :) You can get great deals on them right now at Bigalsonline. If you want to spend a little more go for a Emperor 400. And if you really dont care how much you spend get an AC110. Dollar for dollar though the penguin 350 is the best value out there. I've heard lots of people on here also saying they are quiet, Don't get why yours wasnt.

emperors are 26 bucks on big al....aquaclear110 is 27.........:ROFL:

Granted, the penguin is only 13 bucks, the price implies it's a piece of junk
 
I bought an AC110 from amazon for 62.99. Been awesome for the week I've had it and amazingly quiet. It's on a 30g so I have it turned down all the way
