I have read a little bit on salt water and wanted to set up another 65 that i get this weekend as a saltwater. I do not want coral I just want a few fish more on the lines of a porcupine puffer and maybe a trigger. What supplies should I get to set up a 65 gallon salt water tank ( no coral)

salt mix, live rock, and sand if you can get it. powerhead/wavemaker for circulation. protein skimmer+HOB filter/canister.
at least that's what i would do.
hmm.
is the tank reef-ready?

First off I'm no pro but does the tank have an over flow built in or just empty tank???
doesn't REALLY matter but a SUMP of REGUGIUM would be a good addition but not nessasary!!!
No corals is cheeper on the lighting! good skimmer and live rock (for biological filtration)!! Time and lots of patients

puffers are a no go in a 65. They get to large and require at minimum 120 gallons, there are some smaller species puffers that may have a better chance in a 65 gallon but not a porcupine.

Id get a basic t-5 lighting strip 52 bucks for a 36" long unit.....thats if your tank is 36*18*24. This is only to help colors and what not show up a bit more. Also helps the tank look nicer.

Canisters would be fine for larger turnover and efficiency, just make sure to keep up on cleaning them to prevent nitrate spikes.

triggers will be okay but start small, its usually better to have a longer tank for them being there more active then a puffer would be.

What is the dimensions of the tank, if there different then what i listed above?

yeah, if no corals, then just get the basic t5 lighting strip. Again the only reason i would do this is because of the colors, which will stand out more having suplimental actinic. Live sand and Live rock, filter and skimmer if you want one, and you should be good to go. Cycle for a while and keep your water clean and you should be in the clear. Let us know when you get closer to starting your cycle and we'll walk you through it.

Would it be smart to go buy pre mixed salt water from my lfs? and i see your in wi, where at in wi?
To cycle your tank with just the sand and rock you could mix your own!!!
But for water changes later RO water from LFS is the best!

How often should I do water changes on a 65 fish only. So here it is.

I have a 65 with a penguin biowheel 350 and an ac110. I hope this will work for filteration. I also have a ac70 powerhead. I was also going to get a hob skimmer rated for a 75+ gallon. Last for equipment is a coralife t5 36" double light.

Then for decor is just live sand and big chunks of live rock??
