Let me be clear, this is only me daydreaming not something being planned. I have always wanted to go to peacock bass fishing down on the amazon river, even if just for fun. My friends and I have talked about it several times. I have always wondered what would it take to bring back any specimens LEGALLY. I am not talking about a large quantity of fish but maybe the 3 or 4 that I really liked to keep in my own personal collection And not be sold. I am sure it would require several permits if it is even possible. I have read of vendors going on collection trips and getting.g their fish imported when they got back. But they already have the permits to import, but what about a one time permit or something like that, anybody know anything about this? Once again this is only hypothetical, but if I ever do take that trip I may want to do this, while staying completely legal.

There are people that actually specialize in this for a sort of vacation package, and have all the paperwork and shipping stuff lined up for collection.

sounds like it would be much easier to tag along with those professionals who have import license and knows how to pack a fish better since they do it for their living, but then from the looks on the pics of those fish collecting trips, it seems like all they collect is lil cichlid and lil plecos , nothing monster like those glorified amazon fishing pics of huge peacocks and huge armatus and huge everything.

Yeah I have Google'd this before and all that came up was the peacock bass fishing trips. Now that I went a lil less specific I am getting some collection tours, so we will see if any of them have much experience with the big boys. I wouldn't mind if I could catch even plain monos, but if I could get fogo, intermedia, azul, xingu etc then wow I would be beyond ecstatic

Thanks guys I will just try going through the individual companies and seeing who seems better equipped for something like cichla collecting

Well, the thing is, big fish don't ship well.

+1...also if you are not used to being outdoors the you might want to do some serious research/prep before you go. SA is no joke and is deff somthing to be respected no matter what your purpose is.

Margarita tours, George Fear. Contact either one (I suggest George aka Sharkaquarium), and you have your answers.

Lol I'm a country boy from Louisiana, being outdoors is my preference. Although I know the amazon has many more dangers than Louisiana, I consider myself to have a fairly keen sense of my surroundings when outdoors so I think as long as I don't get stupid and just stay on my toes I shouldn't have to worry, but thanks for the concern.

If I was a city boy then I would be putting myself in very serious danger. Just to be clear I said county boy, not hillbilly like the movie Waterboy portrays us as. Lol.

I think I will contact George just to get some figures together and see what it would take to make this a reality, thanks everyone

lol ok you should be dandy then, I was just trying to look out...I have seen some people who think because they went camping once in an RV when they were 5 that they would be fine hitting the Amazon and they were infact quite miserable once they got out on the river lmao.
