yes its common- hence a reason why it is given so many common names. They are sometimes sold as common plecs, and i often see them with other Hypostomus commons.

After i put him in, the dead spot of my tank was coverd in poop. And its about a 5"x5" area too.

Never did i see that much poop in my tank haha.
