Too much water out at one time causes ich huh? Guess all my fish should getting sick because I do 90% water changes. There's also a thing called dechlorinators that remove the harsh chemicals from tap water.. If the parents are dying in the same tank as the eggs, I'd be more worried about improving the water quality than anything else.
You can do 100% water change with treated water. I think most of us do 20% each time & run the garden hose directly into the tank. With minimal water changes, there's no need to treat the water although it's always a good idea.

when your thai silk died, was there any other symptoms that you noticed? Also in the first pick did you just feed? Looks bloated.

So you're telling me when you do 20% water changes with tap water, you don't treat it? LOL facepalm.

When the silk died. He was just wasn't quite as active. But he never really ate a lot so I could not actually tell a difference if he ate to much or not enough

I really want to say some form of Columnaris, which is a bacterial infection that would cause symptoms you describe. Especially seeing the necrosis on the face. Certain types of columnaris infections cause white, clear, and pink/red areas of necrosis and is commonly found on the face and body of fish. It can also cause ulcers when left untreated. And that **** sticking out of your zz looks like a white tuft from a infected wound. Typically you see columnaris as white cotton like areas on the fish. Commonly gets mistakenly for a fungal infection because of it's appearance. Not sure if you noticed any signs leading up to it other than lethargy. Uusually the common strains of columnaris display signs that give you time to treat, but in other cases it can kill fish in days or even hours in high temp tanks 80 degrees and higher if left untreated. Did you have temperature spikes?

I almost started thinking it could be some type of protozoan parasite causing slime disease, but i'm not convinced enough because i can't really see the fish with my own eyes and hands. I first thought hith, but you would have seen signs well before it did that much damage to the face in such a short amount of time.

FHlov nailed it. I agree. Its a case of acute columnaris. AKA cottonmouth AKA ducklips. Common in texas cichlids and flowerhorns. I ****ing hate it. It actually the reason I joined this site many moons ago.. Killed off my texas and ebjd, however I was able to nurse 1 texas and 1 firemouth back to health with salt dips. Keep temps lower as columnaris loves 80+ temps. otherwise, really sorry man.

That's right. I said it's a good idea to treat the water but not necessary. Been doing it for about 20 years now & never had any issues but fishes did get ich once...I suspect that it was due to the drastic change in water temp. I do 100% water change every so often to thoroughly clean tanks & I would remove the fishes & allow water to settle for 24 hours at least before putting fishes back in (without treating the water at all). However, filtration will start fresh cuz all beneficial bacteria will have died.

"LOL, facepalm." Does that mean you're confused? Or are you saying that I don't know what I'm doing? I'm not new to the game buddy! But there's always something new to learn.
