What influences convict breeding?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i got mine to breed in the first week of putting them in thier new tank, i did a 40% WC every day starved them for 3 days then fed them the next morning wham 150-200 eggs inside thier clay pot, you should have already noticed them choosing thier turf if not then i dont know cons breed like rats

I set up a sweet lovers nest for the breeding cons, a nice cave with some slate under it for them to lay their eggs on.

About a day after i moved them, the male started to kick the snot out of the female he breed with! I dont understand it. I put a second female in with him and he is a little calmer toward her but still chases her.... She is very stressed.

I dont know why he's violent toward her, he defended their spot in the old tank. The only thing i can think of is if its cause he is now the dominant fish in the tank.

Excellent :) They just needed some alone time :D

do cons NEED substrate? i wanna pop them in a 10gal with a flower pot to hopefully get them to breed. i doubt havin them in my piranha tank is gonna do them any good as i notice there to worried about the piranhas to be gettin down to business. they do defend the structure in the piranha tank and it does seem they have paired up because they work together but i haven't seen any egg's or fry yet... what shall i do guys? no spare 20-50gal taks, jus a spare 10gal.

Why you ask this question now Ethics, I could of taken pix of my breeder setup(now temporarily taken down)...I had my cons breeding crazy style in a bare 35 three months ago....The pair litteraly spawned on the front right corner of the tank:drool: ....

Ethnics, cons will spawn anywhere there is water.... ;) A flower pot on its side will make a nice place for them to make sweet love. ( as chef would say )

Anyways, after watching the brutal domestic violence i witnessed in my con breeding tank, last night i had enough. I added another female and took out the battered one. Then raised the tank temp to 84 deg f. and wham, I came home from work today and the female left in the tank layed a bunch of eggs. The only thing is that they are still clear, and I am not sure the male can get into that tight spot to fertilize them... have to wait and see. I'll keep you all updated.

yeah keep us informed bro. i wanna hear about these fish gettin down.

ive seen ur tank man, and my best bet is theres eggs already in there if theyre defending that thing u made for them.

go to ebay and search "breeding cave" they sell cheap as hell and are cooler than most in the lfs
