just wondering what is a crocodile gar?

hybrid of some sort?

are they real gars or fakes like hujetas?

also how big do they get?

thank you

I think crocodile gar and alligator gar are the same thing.

a crocodile gar is an alligator gar hybrid, usually crossed with spotted gar or florida gar. Then again at a pet shop, it can just be used with any gar to make it have a cool sounding name...

croccodile gar are a hybrid, They are long nose gars and spotted or flordia gars. They sometimes are long nose with cuban gars as well, I guess it depends on who made them.

well they are true gars, but they are hybrids of true gars. This would mean max. size would probably differ depending on the mix of hybrid you get.

Thanks again Davo, I learned something today, twice, and both times from you.

The animals first called Crocodile gars where actually hybrids of Shortnosed gar (L. platostomus) and Alligator gars and not Florida/spotted..A very few Platyrhincus/oculatus X Atractosteus spatula hybrids where though produced of which only one is actually known of and alive today. (Ask E_americanus for details has he owns it)

Croc gars where only produced in two year classes and none are known past this. Size is totally unknown but the largest documented from first year class fish (2003) is about 26 inches and is currently housed at shedds aquarium in Chicago.

Croc gars are thee rarest gar type there is and are just not seen anymore.
