What is a Fair Cost for a Male Peacock?

Hello--

I've been getting more into peacocks lately, but because my tank mates are getting larger, I can no longer put small new ones in the tank because of the aggression.

I spoke to the owner of my LFS and he said he can ask for some medium sized peacocks the next time the guy comes in. When he asked what kind I was looking for, I said I am not looking into any in particular, but I would like colorful males.

When I got off the phone, I started thinking, medium size colorful male peacocks might be pretty expensive.

I know there are different qualities, types, etc. but wondered if anyone here can give me a ballpark range for what I might expect to pay?

I understand that you're looking for LFS pricing, but that's relative to the local market. We get peacocks in my market. but probably not as many as you do in CA. I'm sure you will get repsonses from hobbyist in CA. For the time being, this might help. It's a link to AQUABID:

LFS are rip offs. Find a local breeder and get them for cheaper.

The stores around Baltimore for a 3-3.5" male Peacock (of any family/species really) ranges from $50-70.
 
For cheap, try petsmart. Our petsmart here carries peacocks. Most would be female but if you get lucky you'll see a male. I saw one male the other day coloring up nicely at $11
 
i would try to find a breeder or farm too, here the average lfs will sell males 4-5" at $15-25 and larger $30. from a local cichlids farmer i can get large males for $5-6 :D do some research see if you can find a breeder.

And your from Florida where 99% of cichlid farms are based!!! :headbang2
 
Not in the petsmart out here. $11.99 for the juveniles, then nobody buys them, they end up growing out in the tank 2-3 inches, they never change the price since the manager says, they're just trying to move them out
