Only about an inch on average, mine would attack me when I had him in a 110 gallon tank he would literally grab onto my cuticles. They have little fangs for picking up shells that will surprise you. Can be comfortably kept in a 10 gallon tank with 1 male and 1 female. pound for pound probably the most tenacious fish I've ever kept.

Yep... the fish I was referring to as "occie". Great little fish, really!
Again... it's an african cichlid though, from Lake Tang.
