A jau is a Zungaro zungaro Look it up on fishbase.org, or planetcatfish.com, they get huge, like 7 ft in the wild, and over 250 lbs. Here's the pics of mine, and the rtc x marble hybrid. Enjoy! Post up some pics of your's when you get them. Mine has healing fins and whiskers. Looks like he use to have a touch of fin and tail rot. Hopefully he'll be fine! Jau is 12", and the hybrid is 4".:headbang2 The jau will go in the pond after the filter adjusts to the fish I just put in.

Bro Necrocanis please help me..thanks

Cos I think my LFS got 1...haha

How big do these ZZ get?, they are pretty

Massive, Zungaro zungaro, can grow to 5-7' and weigh 150-250 lbs. There are much larger ones reported, but the sizes that I have referenced here are solid fact. The world record is currently 243 lbs. for rod and reel. They are not a begginer fish at all, and I would not recomend them to anyone who has never raised a rtc sized fish to adulthood. Take rtc and give it some massive aggression that sums up a ZZ.

It should be noted the common name "Jau" does not always mean it is a Zungaro..This is the common name in many areas for any number of Large Pimelodid catfish species.

Very true, but in the states most people refer to a Zungaro zungaro as a Jau, or Jhau. I have seen them listed on one website as a giant marble catfish. I like ZZ, I think that's what I will stick with from now on lol.

The peruvian exporters and collectors also use the term 'Jau catfish'.. When I imported the first time, I had to do some research to find out it was Zungaro Zungaro.

More FYI ~ They are banned for exportation, and require a special permit to export, just like Tigrinus.. This can make them seldom available or inflate prices very high.. However, The F&WL aren't very skilled at ID'ing catfish, and it's not hard to put a different scientific name on the paperwork.

Nice juvie pics!! The second one is mine.. !!! :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:
