on a flip-side to your work with LNG's, i've found the YOY SpG's to convert pretty easily...i've had a couple that took non-live on the very first attempt, and many now regularly take non-live (some, because they have mysteriously trained themselves to eat off the bottom, like the short-body SpG, and others, like the "hot" treatment experimental fish eat dead fish from the surface...mainly because once those feeders hit the water at those temps they go belly-up almost right away).
it sounds like you know a lot about gars...we should meet up and chat sometime![]()
Yeah we will have to chat about getting these damn SPG on pellets.. 1st year juveniles seem to take to them quick, Got some raised from early stage on them as well. Some of these others (IE. LA fish) are being as stubborn as hell about taking pellets. They take all sorts of other feed but have so far refused pellets of any type. Not sure why but they have truly tested my theory all gar are garbage disposals. Might be a temp response (Cooler for slower metabolism) and that I have them in a larger tank than needed which may be making them a bit on the spooky side. Might just have to move them to a 20 for a bit with more cover and up the temp a bit. I'm sure they will take them it has just been a bit longer period than what I've experienced with other species.
