I saw one at an aquarium the other day and im thinking about getting it. Im pretty sure its xanthic because its all white with a little bit of black on some spots. I dont know how to distinguish the subspecies in the amphilophus genus but it doesnt quite look like a red devil so im pretty sure its legit. Please give me some info cuz im thinking about temporarily putting it with my jaguar for a few weeks maybe a month

From CRC:

Diagnosis: Amphilophus sagittae is best recognized by its slender shape. Young specimens look very much like Amphilophus xiloaensis. They have been misidentified in the hobby.

Amphilophus sagittae shows many similarities with Amphilophus zaliosus from Laguna Apoyo. This could be due to convergent evolution.

It did have a slimmed down shape. At first i thought it was an underfed red devil at first

Apparently they are more of an open water species hence the slender shape. They supposedly grow slightly smaller than your typical midas and again are much slimmer. As far as aggression I have read both ends of the spectrum. Some say they are just as if not more aggressive than your typical midas and some say they are a little less aggressive. Souldn't be any harder to take care of than your typical amphilophus species. Cool fish though. They look like a smaller zaliosus.

They are sometimes called "Black Devils" and for a good reason..They, like all Amphilophus species can be very aggressive.

Here is a barred variant. They turn jet black when stressed, dominating, breeding, etc. They are a bit nasty but nothing like labiatum or citrinellum.

I'll try and get a pic of my dominant barred male later this weekend.

Here are some of the colored variant - creamsicle:
